Here is a rare and desirable early (circa 1923) RCA Radiola "Special" that is in excellent plus condition and complete with the metal cabinet front and top sliding lid that are often missing when you see one. This 1 tube regen radio works very well and is quite selective. The genesis of this radio began in 1922 when RCA offered the "AR1375" by Wireless Specialty Apparatus Co, which was called the "Radiola". It was a crystal radio selling for double the price of two other RCA crystal radios. It didn't sell, was recalled and redesigned into the 1 tube regen Radiola Special for 1923 using the then new UV-199 peanut tube. The metal front panel of the Radiola Special was placed right on top of the thick bakelite type panel of the AR1375 (can't waste all those AR1375 panels). With the chasis out, if you gently lift the panel edge and look closely, you can see some of the AR1375 panel engraving. It has a serial number of 4379. This radio has a very scarce brass base tipped "rainbow" Cunningham C-299 tube that has excellent emission (this rare tube by itself is quite expensive, so factor that in your bidding). It's a hot little radio, only needing a long antenna, ground and power supply to fire it up. The paint on the front panel is thin in a few areas, but it's not distracting. The radio originally came with a set of Brandes Superior headphones, and a set is included in this auction. The headphones are in nice working condition and have no fraying on the cord. All of the knobs are correct and turn smoothly. The chasis is clean and the wiring on the coil is nice and tight. one of the rubber feet on the bottom has a split. The metal cabinet has been tastefully brush repainted to what appears to be the correct color and has 2 or 3 paint chips. This a a very nice radio that would be the center of your collection. If you have any questions, please contact me before bidding. As with all antique radios, it is sold "As Is" and not returnable. Shipping is $24.50 Fed Ex Ground insured for the lower 48. International bidders can contact me for a shipping estimate. Pay Pal only for International sales. Pay Pal (and other forms) are accepted for domestic sales. Payment must be received within 7 days from auction ending date. Good luck and enjoy the auction. Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
