I’m thinning out my eclectic collection of antiques and offer an absolutely beautiful WORKING example of a Zenith 7-S-232A deluxe table model radio featuring the famous “robot dial” and cathode ray “tuning eye.” 23"H x 18-1/2"W x 15"D. Four versions were available of this model line - two different seven-tube chassis, a nine-tube chassis and a twelve-tube chassis (this being the seven-tube version). The 1970s TV series, "The Waltons," featured a 232 model in several episodes, hence the collector nickname - Zenith Walton. These were expensive sets with the 7-S-232 selling for $74.95, the 7-J-232 going for $79.95, the 9-S-232 price was $89.95 and the 12-S-232 topping the price list at $99.95. While I have seen the 7-S-232 model come and go on eBay, I have never seen one with the “A” suffix after the number (I believe this means that it was produced for export). While the “A” does not appear within the stamped areas showing the model number on the rear of the cabinet and the chassis, it is shown on the label on the bottom of the case…which makes sense if it was designated for export. I bought this from another collector several years ago and have played it sparingly since. I won’t say the reception is crystal clear…I live about 50 miles north of Detroit, and the radio picks up only a few Detroit area stations. The sound is good on the stronger stations, but more noisy on others (not sure if that simply is a function of where I live or not). I’m sure most of you will want to know if anything has been done to the radio…and I can only tell you that I have not done anything to it myself. The previous owner had claimed he had it re-capped, but I have never removed the chassis to verify this. Also, the cabinet and grill cloth are just gorgeous and, as such, I would guess it's safest to assume that the cabinet was refinished at some time (if so, a great job) and that the grill cloth was replaced (if so, an exact copy of original). The power cord is an obvious safety-driven replacement. The tuning eye lights up and is quite attractive, but probably could stand replacement since its aperture does not fluctuate very much when tuning the radio. I believe the knobs to be original. All in all, a really BEAUTIFUL radio and one that I hope finds a good home. Shipping will be via UPS for a flat rate of $60.00 to the lower 48 states (sorry, no international sales). I have started this auction at a VERY low starting bid with NO RESERVE (as all of my previous auctions have been), so I’m hoping for some spirited bidding…good luck!
