Crosley Military Receiver Transmitter Model # BC-654-A If there is no bid on this item in the final 48 hours we reserve the right to end the auction. This item will ship only to the 48 Continental U.S. States. Sorry, but size and weight are a bit much for this item to ship any further. ************************************************ This is a nice vintage piece of U.S. Army WWII radio equipment. An unusual item to add to your vintage radio or military collection. I cannot say if this radio works or not. I don't know anything about testing or repairing this type of equipment, so it is being sold as untested for parts or restoration. This receiver/transmitter is a huge unit. It measures 18" wide by 14" deep by 9 1/2" tall. It weighs in at 52 1/2 lbs by itself and not packed for shipping. There is a metal tag on the outside of the lid as well as the top of the operating panel. Both indicated the unit was made by The Crosley Corporation of Cincinnati, OH. The also indicate the unit was made for the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Inside the lid is a large metal tag with the operating instructions. There is also a Calibration Chart on the inside of the lid. The only obvious damage I can see is one of the arms that holds the lid open is detached from the side of the box. I imagine this can be repaired by pushing the arm back into the slot. I tried but it needed a little more force than I could get on it by hand. There is also a part with 5 stray wires coming out of it (see photos). I'm not sure this is the way it is supposed to be. It may not be damaged, but it just doesn't look right to me. I turned the tuning dials for the receiver, transmitter and antenna tuning and they all worked just fine. There is a meter for the antenna current. The glass on this meter is in good shape with no cracks. The dial lock for the receiver dial locks as it should. The antenna selector, standby switch and main switch all clicked as they should between each setting. There are little spring loaded covers for plugin connectors such as mic and earphones. All of the springs are still nice and strong and keep the little lids closed. I would have love to get photos of this thing on the inside, but I'm not quite sure how to open it up without causing any damage. Sorry. There is a bit of a musty scent to this unit. You would have to be within two feet of it to smell it. I don't think it's a horrible, but it is present. The outside of the box does have its share of scrapes, scratches, missing and chipped paint. It is dusty and dirty, but certainly not bad considering its age. One thing I don't see are dents. I imagine this was probably built to survive anything but a direct hit. Like I stated earlier I have no idea if this unit works or not, but if you enjoy working on this type of radio equipment or are a collector of military items this should be difficult to pass up. There are not too many of these floating around. *********************************************************************************** We list a wide variety of collectibles discovered at estate auctions. Notes about shipping If the shipping charge looks excessive, please email me - There may be an error on the listing. We will be happy to combine shipping on all items we sell whenever possible. If there will be different purchases on different days, let us know and we will wait to ship. Why Priority mail may cost less We recieve free shipping boxes from the U.S. Postal Service. Which they deliver for free to our location and they pick up the boxes up at our location for free. We save money by not having to purchase boxes or driving to the store to pick them up. We also do not have to drive to the post office to deliver your package. The post office does not pick up Parcel Post packages so we have to deliver them to the post office. Generally, an average box of 12x12x8 is $1.75 at Staples. A round trip to Staples and the post office is approximately 18 miles. The average car gets about 20 miles/gallon in the city. A gallon of gas cost roughly $2.75/gallon. Not using the Priority Mail boxes cost $4.50 more on average. So we either use Priority Mail or we offer Parcel Post and add a $3.00 shipping & handling fee. In our experience 90+ percent of packages are cheaper when sent via Priority Mail, than Parcel Post with the added expense. Due to fact that we cannot specify a shipping & handling charge on a listing for one service and not the other, the listing will show only Priority Mail. If you would like a comparison between the two services contact us and we will provide an estimate for both. If delivery to your zip code is less expensive using Parcel Post, we will be happy to provide that service to you. This does happen on occasion, mainly with heavier or larger size items. We will do what we can to keep the shipping cost to a minimum. ********************************************* If you wish to change the available shipping method(s) we offer on any listing, please make your request PRIOR to bidding or purchasing. By bidding or purchasing without prior approval you are agreeing to utilize the shipping method(s) provided on the listing. We use Priority Mail boxes supplied for free by the U.S. Postal Service. If your request for a delivery method, for which Priority Boxes cannot be used, there will be an additional shipping & handling fee to cover the purchase of proper shipping materials. If we offer or the buyer has requested the use of any non-trackable delivery method, we reserve the right to charge, and the buyer agrees to pay, a small handling to fee to cover the cost of delivery confirmation. If a buyer request to waive the handling fee used to cover the cost of delivery confirmation, we will not be responsible for packages that are lost, stolen or otherwise not received by the buyer and, the buyer agrees that, their request to waive the handling fee to cover the cost of delivery confirmation may nullify and void, at our sole discretion, any refund or return policy previously stated. For an estimate of a delivery confirmation charge, please contact us with your zip code (for U.S. residents) or let us know the country in which you reside. Should you decide to waive the additional charge you must notify us PRIOR to bidding or purchasing. By bidding or purchasing prior to notifying us that you are declining or waiving the additional fee, you are agreeing to be responsible for the additional charge. There is NO real tracking for USPS Priority Mail. If you require tracking, then the item MUST be sent either via UPS or Express Mail. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: Tracking is only available with USPS Express Mail. Regular First Class International and Priority Mail do NOT offer tracking. If you choose Priority or First Class you are agreeing to a NON-TRACKABLE shipment method. Please see notes above concerning non-trackable shipments. International shipping times take 3-14 business days but during busy times it can take longer. Additionally, if items have to clear customs that can delay the shipment further. Customs delays are beyond our control and are not included in the estimated shipping time. Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight or shipping company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. We do not mark merchandise below value or mark items as ‘gifts’ - US and International government regulations prohibit this type of activity.
